Back in 1976 the Viking 1 mission captured the public eye after sending back photos of the Martian surface showing a “Face on Mars” located nearby to a formation of “Pyramids on Mars” in a region of the Red Planet called Cydonia.
Other strange looking images which have been discovered over the years include sunbathing spiders, a mysterious woman, and a smiley face. Now NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity has set UFO buffs and conspiracy theorists alike abuzzing once more after sending back photos apparently showing what appears to be a Mars rat or squirrel, and a lizard.
So could a lizard or rat like creature survive in Mars’ harsh carbon dioxide atmosphere, or its dusty, dry and cold surface, not to mention its weak magnetic field which provides little protection against solar radiation? According to UFOlogis Scott C. Waring at UFO Sightings Daily, the answer is yes, and as he explains:
Despite conspiracy theorists spinning an entertaining tale, however, NASA’s recent intriguing photos are in all likelihood just rocks, with their apparent resemblance to various creatures a result of a phenomenon of misperception called pareidolia.
Nevertheless, scientist believe that life on Mars might possibly exist, but that it would most likely occur underground and in regions where the planet’s magnetic fields are stronger. They also believe the chances of sightings a creature out in the open amongst the rocks seem highly doubtful at best, but not impossible. Needless to say the NASA photo shown above is obviously not a squirrel. If anything it looks more like a guinea pig!
